Are you aware of most of the foods we like are not about meat? In fact they are all about the spices and flavors we add to them. In making vegan “fish” dishes, it’s important to get that taste that reminds you of the sea.
Before going vegan, I was used to eating sea foods. In fact, sea foods were the only animal food that I’d eaten. Now, I don’t miss any kind of animal food. But, I think, it would be useful to many people to offer them delicious ‘sea’ tastes – especially for those people who are still trying to be vegan.
Yesterday, Idecided to veganize some seafood dishes. Luckily for me, veganizingold favorite recipes is my specialty. It didn’t take long to figureout how to have those flavors of the sea, without the fish. If youhave been missing seafood, you can have those tastes back again, andleave the fish in the sea where they belong.
When you decide to veganize any dish, it’s very important to use the right ingredient that will stand in for the animal product you’re leaving out. In this article, I’ll try to make these ingredients clear to you.
If you want tocreate a chewy texture, use tempeh. It is perfect for a crispy veganfish, octopus or crab.
If you need a softer texture, such as for vegan tuna salad, chickpeas are good.
If you need toget a smoother but solid texture, then pressed tofu works well.
For veganshrimp, you can use oyster mushrooms, artichokes, jack fruit or palmheart.
Do you know that most restaurants use old bay seasoning in fish? This means, in fact, there is little taste in fish without seasoning.
You can add seaweed, which really gives you the taste of the ocean, by adding kelp flakes, dulce flakes, or crumbled up pieces of seaweed. Lemon juice and nutritional yeast, whether in the recipe or added at the end, is also reminiscent of many seafood dishes. Besides these, other spices such as dill and mustard seed, artichoke flakes, and celery seed are also often used in recipes.

Make vegan seafood with king oyster mushrooms, oyster mushrooms and shiitake mushrooms. Also consider using canned hearts of palm, banana blossoms, jackfruit and artichoke hearts. To mimic the taste and texture of seafood dishes, use chickpeas, watermelon, tomato and carrots.
The 3 ingredients I add to any vegan seafood recipe is what I call the “Sea Trinity” – Old Bay Seasoning, seaweed, and lemon. Old Bay Seasoning is a combination of a bunch of herbs and spices and is commonly used in seafood cooking.
Most simply, a pescatarian is someone who doesn't eat red meat or poultry, but does eat fish and other seafood. The term pescatarian was coined in the early 1990s and is a combination of the Italian word for fish, “pesce,” and the word “vegetarian.” Sometimes it's spelled “pescetarian,” but this means the same thing.
The benefits of being a pescatarian might get you hooked. Pescatarians have a lot in common with vegetarians. They eat fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds, whole grains, beans, eggs, and dairy, and stay away from meat and poultry. But there's one way they part company from vegetarians: Pescatarians eat fish and other seafood.
Houttuynia cordata is herbaceous perennial plant which has heart shaped leaves and a tail-like rhizome. It gets its nickname "fish mint" because it has a special fishy taste.
Another name for fish mint or Houttuynia cordata is chameleon plant—the reason for this being the herb's membership of the Saururaceae or lizard-tail family of plants. Not much is known about the origin of this herb, but it is believed to be a native of southeast Asia.
You might be surprised to learn that there is a portion of vegans who believe that consuming oysters and mussels does not contradict their commitment to a completely animal-free diet. This somewhat controversial subset of veganism even has its own name – ostroveganism, from the latin word 'ostrea' meaning oyster.
All three testers were amazed by the way the plant-based shrimp combine with other ingredients. It can absolutely hold its own against the real thing. Its bite was just right as was the consistency on the tongue, and it has a faint flavor of the sea.
There are many types of fish with a mild flavor similar to chicken. The best fish to start off with are tilapia, arctic char, cod, haddock, flounder, sole and walleye. You can substitute any of these fish into your favorite chicken recipe. Shrimp and scallops also have a nice, mild flavor.
Vegans around the world rejoiced the day they discovered jackfruit (we assume). This large tree fruit is the main ingredient in many vegan "pulled pork" recipes, and its meatiness works well as a substitute for crab, too. This mild fruit takes on almost any flavor.
Vegan tuna or chickpea tuna is an easy, fun, and tasty recipe that uses mashed chickpeas and a few other simple ingredients to recreate the texture and flavor of tuna salad. You can expect a savory umami-packed flavor with a touch of brininess and tanginess pleasantly reminiscent of the sea without being fishy.
Some vegetarians, known as lacto-ovo-vegetarians, eat certain animal products, such as eggs, milk, and cheese. Still, they do not eat fish. If vegetarians include fish and seafood in their diets but still avoid the flesh of other animals, they're considered pescatarians.
In the aquarium, hobbyists can provide fresh vegetables like sliced zucchini, cucumber, romaine lettuce, sweet potato, peas, and spinach. These can be attached to the inside wall of the tank using specially designed clips and should be removed after 24 hours of nibbling to keep the aquarium water from getting cloudy.
