How are banks classified in India?
Classification of Banks in India
Banks in India are classified into four types – the central bank, commercial banks, specialised banks and cooperative banks. The Reserve Bank of India is India's central bank. The main function of the central bank in a country is to regulate all the other banks, thus acting as an apex body for the economic sector.
The Indian Banking Structure is broadly classified into Scheduled Banks and Non-scheduled banks. The scheduled banks are further divided into cooperative banks and commercial banks. While, under the commercial banks, we have Public Sector Banks, Regional Rural Banks (RRBs), and Foreign Banks.
Accepting Deposits: Banks provide a safe place for individuals and businesses to deposit their money, which can be withdrawn when needed. Providing Loans: Banks lend money to individuals and businesses for various purposes, such as home mortgages, business expansion, or personal loans.
Category IV: applies to all organizations with at least $100 billion in total consolidated assets that do not apply to categories I-III. FRB goes beyond EGRRCPA - The proposal goes beyond EGRRCPA by tailoring standards for firms between $250-700 billion (EGRRCPA only indicated a change for $100 to $250 billion).
The 14 private banks which were nationalized in 1969 are Allahabad Bank, UCO Bank, Canara Bank, United Bank of India, Central Bank of India, Syndicate Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, Bank of Baroda, Punjab National Bank, Dena Bank, Bank of India, Bank of Maharashtra, Indian Bank, and Union Bank.
The typical organizational structure in a commercial bank is the following: a financial holding company (or bank holding company) at the top of the pyramid; below the holding company is the bank itself; finally, the bank may own subsidiary companies involved in credit card lending, commercial finance, and equipment ...
Non-scheduled banks are private banking institutions that offer banking services to the general public and businesses. Non-scheduled banks are those that are not included in the second schedule of the RBI Act of 1934 and do not meet all of the criteria under clause 42, but strictly adhere to the RBI's rules.
The 12 nationalised banks include Punjab National Bank (PNB), Bank of Baroda (BoB), Bank of India (BoI), Central Bank of India, Canara Bank, Union Bank of India, Indian Overseas Bank (IOB), Punjab, and Sind Bank, Indian Bank, UCO Bank, Bank of Maharashtra, and State Bank of India (SBI).

A granular and diversified deposit base relative to global banks has helped lower risk. McKinsey analysis shows that around 82% of the total liabilities for Indian banks are funded through deposits, as compared to around 60-75% for banks in the US and EU, as of Dec'22.

Which bank is the safest bank in India? The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) regulates the safety of banks in India. Among the prominent banks known for their stability and safety measures are the State Bank of India (SBI), HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, and Punjab National Bank (PNB).
Answer: RBI called the "mother of all banks" discussed below: The RBI controls the flow of currency within the economy.

In India, HDFC Bank has continuously been ranked among the best banks in terms of both assets and client happiness. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) controls the bank, ensuring that it follows strict financial laws and security procedures.
While different banks may have different divisions, these are often the main divisions offered: Retail Banking. Corporate/Commercial Banking. Global Banking.
A bank's major business segments are retail banking, wholesale banking, and wealth management. While banks might have different names for their various business operations, they still have the same business functions as these three categories.
Types of organizational structures include functional, divisional, flatarchy, and matrix structures. Senior leaders should consider a variety of factors before deciding which type of organization is best for their business, including the business goals, industry, and culture of the company.
Scheduled banks need to keep a cash reserve ratio with the Reserve bank, send periodic reports to it, and are automatically enrolled in the clearinghouses. Non-scheduled banks are expected to keep the cash reserve ratio internally and are not expected to give any reports to the Reserve bank.
